Almyrida, Crete – Beaches hard to forget
Almyrida has some of the best beaches in West Crete. By the village there are two sandy blue-flag beaches, with crystal-clear waters, which are perfect for families with children and swimmers who are not experienced, as both beaches are shallow and their sandy bottom slopes gradually.
The central sandy beach in front of Almyrida village offers many amenities, like sun beds and parasols, a lifeguard, opportunities for water sports, and plenty of mini markets, stores, cafés, and bars near the beach.
Generally, the amenities of Almyrida are excellent. Apart from the above mentioned, you can also find many taverns and fish taverns with fresh fish, most of which are by the beach.
Although Almyrida is particularly more fit to families, there is some nightlife. Perhaps the best place to sit in the evening, in order to enjoy the marvellous sunset, is one of the beachfront cafés that become cocktail bars as the night falls. At the night hours, equally interesting are the friendly bars of the village.
Regarding the beaches of Almyrida, there is also a third beach with pebbles nearby, that is ideal for snorkelling. If you want to also try some other beaches, the neighbouring coastal village of Kalives, at a distance of about 3 kilometres, is a very good option.
Almyrida, Crete – A scenic village in a magnificent location
